Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has revealed that the weekly sit-at-home order enforced by a faction of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the South-East region is causing the state to lose over N10 billion every Monday.

He made this statement during a meeting with the Presidents-General of all autonomous communities in the state.

Governor Mbah explained that the financial loss occurs because economic activities are prevented from taking place due to the illegal sit-at-home order.

The governor highlighted that businesses suffer as people alter their plans, resulting in a loss of revenue for hotels and a decline in economic participation.

He expressed concern that the perception of insecurity created by the sit-at-home orders could hinder his administration’s plans to transition the state’s economy from being predominantly public sector-driven to private sector-driven.

Governor Mbah urged the Presidents-General to communicate with their communities and educate them that there is no official sit-at-home order on Mondays or any other day.

He emphasized that they should not allow unelected individuals to issue orders to them and should not consent to anyone making them feel inferior.

The governor assured the people that security agencies have been placed on high alert to ensure the protection of lives and property in the state
