There Is A New Bill To Regulate The Practice Of Christianity In Nigeria
The Chairman of the Human and Constitutional Rights Committee, African Bar Association, Sonnie Ekwowusi has alleged that there is a bill that is about to pass to regulate the practice of Christianity in Nigeria under the current Bola Tinubu administration. He said in an interview with Arise Tv news that this bill is a violation of section 38 of the 1999 constitution that speaks of Freedom to Rights, thoughts, conscience and religion.
He stated further that the bill will cause chaos in the Christian body as there will be no major freedom of expression.
He noted that the President has the responsibility to ensure that this bill does not become law. According to him, Nigeria is a secular state and every religion has to be respected.
He said, ”Nigeria is a secular state, the state has no right to interfere with the way religion is practiced in Nigeria.
There is a separation between the State and the Church. The State cannot interfere with the way Churches are run because these are two different entities. There is a new bill to regulate the practice of Christianity in Nigeria. The bill is going far to say there will be a council in Abuja for education.”
