Just In : Imo 10th Assembly elects Chike Olemgbe, Amara Iwuanyanwu speaker, deputy amid cheers
The Imo state 10th House of Assembly has elected the newly sworn in member representing Ihitte-Uboma state constituency, Chike Olemgbe and the member representing Nwangele state constituency, Amara Iwuanyanwu, the speaker and deputy speaker respectively.
The new speaker, Olemgbe, was nominated by the member representing Ideato-South state constituency, Vitalis Azodo, and seconded by the member representing Owerri Municipal constituency, Ugochukwu Obodo.
Their emergence was sequel to the Assembly clerk’s (Chinelo Emeghara’s) declaration of the House open for nominations after reading the proclamation from the Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma.
The new speaker, Chike Olemgbe, is said to be a first-timer and was elected on Friday, 16th June, 2023, alongside other 26 members.
He had won election under the platform of APC to succeed his immediate predecessor, Onyemaechi Njoku, who contested for the Okigwe-South House of Representing but lost out during the APC primary election.
Amara Iwuanyanwu, the deputy speaker, was elected in 2019 during the 9th session and was returned same as a second-timer following a nomination made by the Ahiazu-mbaise state constituency member, Samuel Otuibe and seconded by Modestus Osakwe, the member for Isu state constituency.
The 10th Assembly, however, is made up of 25 APC members, one PDP member (Modestus Osakwe) of Isu state constituency and one Accord Party member who is Vitalis Azodo of Ideato-South state constituency
