Fake Scam Alert: EFCC Release Fresh Warning To Nigerians
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has warned Nigerians to be cautious of the actions of fraudulent people who issue scam alerts using a fictitious EFCC Help Desk.
The commission states that fraudulent calls claiming to be from its help desk could be used as scam alerts.
In a statement released in Abuja, Wilson Uwujaren, the Commission’s spokesperson, clarified that the ‘Scam Alert’ that was spreading on social media was fake.
For the avoidance of doubt, he stated that the EFCC does not have such a desk and that any information purportedly coming from the EFCC Help Desk did not come from the EFCC.
The spokesman issued a warning that the Scam Alert’s creators’ usage of the EFCC suggests that they have ulterior motivations.
“It is important that the public is put on notice, as the commission will not be liable should anyone become a victim of what is obviously a scam,” he emphasized.
According to the statement, the commission advised the general public to exercise caution and confirm any unconfirmed information with the anti-graft agency.
