The Ondo state house of assembly Chairman, House Committee on Information, Youth and Sports Development, Akogun Olugbenga Omole has confessed that the house lied to the world that live snake fell off from the assembly chamber during plenary in 2019.

It was in July 2019 reported that the snake dropped from the roof of the chamber, leaving lawmakers scampering for safety that the snake was later killed by staff of the complex.

Omole who spoke on behalf of the assembly, then said the incident only happened due to the terrible state of the complex.

He said, “Yesterday (Wednesday), when we were about to enter into plenary, a big snake ran out of the chamber, which disrupted our sitting, and we had to hurriedly leave the chamber.

“We were about to sit again today (Thursday) when the ceiling caved in directly where Mr Speaker was sitting. We were agitated and when we looked around, we saw the damage that termite had done to most of the wood work in the chamber.”

However, on Sunday, during a live programme on Fresh FM Akure which was monitored by our heritage reporter , the lawmaker exonerated himself, saying the story was fabricated.

Omole representing Akoko South West constituency 1 said, “I think it was the first week we got to the assembly and I am the assembly spokesman. It was a pity that such incident occurred.

“Our governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu is like a father to me and he knows how supportive I have been.

“Everyone should investigate what I am saying. Those that have been in the house before us had been lamenting about the bad state of the assembly.

“It was true that snake came out but it was not from the chamber. It was just escalated.

“Whatever I say as the Spokesman, it wasn’t my personal opinion, but the house of assembly must have authorized me to say it.

“It was later we realised that those claiming to be APC members among us were not loyal to the party.

“I was asked to talk about the snake and I said it the way I was asked to say it. These are some of the things they used against me that it was Omole that said they saw snake at the chamber.

“What I said was on behalf of the whole assembly.

“Some of us have issues with the governor and they have concluded their plans on how we would present the issue on the snake.

“The state of the chamber was not good truly, but it was not good enough that we lied that snake came out during plenary.

“The picture that went viral with big snake, was I the one who produced the picture ? It was the handwork of some of us.”
