Bad Road : Ihiagwa people Seek Uzodimma’s Intervention, Describe Road As Economic Value
People of Ihiagwa under the auspices of Ihiagwa Town Management Committee (ITMC), have urged Governor Hope Uzodimma to urgently complete the Naze/Nekede/Ihiagwa/Obinze road project to ease their suffering, pain and agony.
The people made the appeal through the Chairman of Ihiagwa Town Management Committee, Engr. Emeka Udokporo (Omekannaya), while briefing journalists at the community’s civic centre on Tuesday.
The people said when the Ihiagwa road is completed just as the Nekede section of the ring road, economic activities will boost, comfort and relaxation become the order of the day at the area, lamenting that businesses therein are going down with poor patronage, people deserting the area to safer and more conducive environments.
Udokporo emphasized that government derives huge economic resources from Naze, Nekede, Ihiagwa, Obinze and other neighbouring communities like Umuokpo, Emeabiam, Eziobodo, Okolochi and Eziokele through Federal University of Technology, Federal Polytechnic, Cluster Market, Industrial Market, Alaba Market, Mechanic Village and Imo Rubber Estate and hence deserve good infrastructures especially road, electricity and healthcare services.
“Unfortunately, as residents of Nekede are rejoicing, the people of Ihiagwa and the adjoining communities are still crying because of bad road. The Ihiagwa axis which is yet to be fixed is nothing to write home about. It is not only pathetic, but has affected the economy and living standard of the people/residents of Ihiagwa clan”, they cried.
Udokporo remarked that “the road deserves urgent attention as the rainy season is approaching…The current nature of the road has subjected our people to untold hardship. People no longer come to Ihiagwa to invest or establish businesses. The existing ones have collapsed due to low patronage or even relocated. Our people are now appealing for help”.
“Regrettably, some Ihiagwa women in labor are losing their unborn babies due to logistic problems compounded by the bad nature of the access road. Also, our sick people are dying on regular basis, as doctors/nurses cannot reach them when needed due to poor accessibility. Ihiagwa people have suffered this menace for a very long time and we have made frantic effort to draw the attention of the government to the road, to ensure that Ihiagwa did not get cut off from the city. For this note, I want to thank Governor Hope Uzodimma for seeing reasons to start work on the road. It is a step in the right direction”, they capped
However, the people who said they are peace-loving, maintained that they will continue to pray for, as well as support the Shared Prosperity led administration as it meets the needs of the people via good governance and purposeful leadership.
