Just In : Governor-elect flexes muscles, issues public warning against sitting Governor
Despite not yet sworn-in as the executive governor of the state, the
Kano state governor-elect, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has ordered individuals, groups and organisations undertaking construction on public properties in the state to keep off.
Mr Yusuf’s directive was contained in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Friday.
The governor-elect also advised the discontinuance of demolition on all existing buildings belonging to the government and people of Kano State.
He said, “The Kano State Governor-elect, His Excellency, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed that this Public Advisory be issued to all individuals, groups, and other organisations that have ongoing construction in public places.
“You are advised to discontinue any construction work on public land within and around the following: All schools in the State, all religious and cultural sites in the State, all hospitals in the State, all graveyards in the State, and along the city walls of Kano.
“You are also advised to discontinue the demolition of, and the construction on, all existing public buildings belonging to the government and people of Kano State.”
He added that the advisory was issued in the public interest, effective from Thursday, 30th March, 2023 till further notice while any contravener does so at his or her on risk.
The warning was issued a few days after Nasir Gawuna, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the March 18 governorship election, accepted his fate and urged his followers to recognise Yusuf as the winner.
Gawuna, who is the deputy of outgoing Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, had initially rejected the outcome of the election, saying the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ought to declare it inconclusive.
The governor-elect would be sworn into office on May 29, 2023.
