10th Senate: APC wins 51 seats, PDP 27 after Presidential, NASS election
The All Progressives Congress (APC) is far ahead of other political parties that participated in the Saturday, February 25, Senatorial election.
As at the time of filing this report, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had announced results of the election in 92 of the 109 senatorial seats.
In all, the ruling party got 51 seats, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had 27.
The Labour Party won five seats, while the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP), got two seats each. The Young Progressives Party (YPP) secured a Senate seat. Seventeen seats are left for grab.
The election so far has thrown up surprises, as opposition parties made inroads into states that have not been under their control.
However, both the APC and the PDP recorded a few exceptions.
For instance, in Lagos, Ogun, Ekiti, Ondo, Kwara, Oyo, Kogi, Katsina and Ebonyi, the ruling party made a clean sweep, winning all 27 senatorial seats in those states.
But, the PDP cleared the seats in Osun, and surprisingly, it won all the three slots in Kaduna, an APC-controlled state.
Similarly, the APC won three seats in Oyo State and took two of the three seats declared by INEC in Taraba, a PDP controlled state.
Also, in the Southwest, the APC cleared 15 of the 18 seats, while the PDP took the remaining three seats.
In the Southeast region,the ruling party won five seats, the remaining seats were shared among the Labour Party (LP), the PDP,
Young Progressives Party (YPP) and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Also in the Southsouth, APC cleared six seats, while the remaining declared results showed that the PDP and LP won other seats.
The APC also maintained a good performance in Northcentral. It won all the seats in Kogi and Kwara, took two each in Benue and Niger.
But Social Democratic Party (SDP) cleared all the seats in Nasarawa. The PDP took the remaining seats declared so far in the region.
