The bill which was sponsored by Senator Simeon Lalong, which has passed second reading, seeks to address the marginalization of traditional rulers and enhance their contributions to community development and conflict resolution.

Shedding more light on the bill at a Press Conference with Senate Correspondent, Senator Lalong highlighted the necessity of clearly delineating the functions of traditional rulers within the proposed framework.

He disclosed that most Nigerians have limited the role of traditional rulers in Nigeria to security, stressing that, the role steps beyond the issue of security as they are custodian of culture and other aspects of life of the people.

he emphasized the historical significance of traditional leaders in Nigeria’s independence and their ongoing role in maintaining peace and order within communities.

The legislation has now been referred to the Senate relevant committee which is expected to report back in four weeks.
