Nothing Lasts Forever, There’s Life After Power– Fubara Tells Pro-Wike Lawmakers After Locking Him Out Of Plenary
Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has reacted after being denied entry into the Rivers State House of Assembly quarters, where he was scheduled to present the 2025 Appropriation Bill.
On Wednesday, Fubara arrived at the Assembly’s temporary complex on Port Harcourt-Aba Road, only to find the entrance gate locked.
This followed an ultimatum from lawmakers, who had given him 48 hours to present the budget—an approval process earlier conducted by the four-member faction loyal to him.
However, the Supreme Court recently recognized the 27 lawmakers aligned with Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as the authentic members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
When Fubara invited them to the Government House in Port Harcourt, they refused to attend.
Speaking during the inauguration of the Bori Zonal Hospital in Khana LGA, Fubara declared that all stakeholders must prioritise the state’s economy and ensure civil servants do not suffer unnecessary hardship.
He insisted that he followed due process and expressed hope that the lawmakers would eventually comply with the Supreme Court’s ruling.
“I made frantic efforts to reach the Speaker, which I believe he cannot deny, alongside other members of the Assembly.
“I even sent WhatsApp messages to them, notifying them that I would be coming at 10 am to present the budget. This was to ensure that Rivers State does not face any crisis because of me, as some have alleged.
“But unfortunately, when we got there this morning, we were denied access. And the next thing I heard was that no communication was made. I leave everything to God, who sees all things in secret.
“I am aware of reports in the media claiming there was no communication or effort on my part. So, I am using this platform to clarify the situation.
“Like I have always said, nothing lasts forever. Even the greatest power eventually comes to an end. What matters is how we use power. I have chosen not to abuse mine, no matter what they claim.
“When power is abused, it leads to situations like this. But I will remain restrained because I know that there is life after power.”
The development comes just 24 hours after President Bola Tinubu directed Fubara to implement the Supreme Court’s verdict. The president gave the directive during a meeting with Niger Delta stakeholders at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
