Two Persons Dead, Others Injured In Lagos Tanker Explosion Around Otedola Under-Bridge

At least two unidentified persons were burnt to death in a devastating tanker explosion at the Otedola Under-Bridge in Lagos State, while three others sustained severe burns, with one rushed to an undisclosed hospital.

However, the inferno quickly spread, consuming 10 vehicles, eight tricycles, and a nearby building before emergency responders managed to contain it.
Meanwhile, the blaze also affected several structures, including a church, a residential house, and a mechanics’ park in the area.
Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), described the scene as “catastrophic” in a statement on Wednesday.
Dr Femi explained that emergency teams, including firefighters and security agencies, worked tirelessly to put out the fire and prevent further destruction.
“It was a devastating incident. Our emergency teams responded swiftly, but the fire had already spread rapidly, consuming at least 10 vehicles, eight tricycles, and a building,” he said.
Emergency calls flooded the state’s response lines, prompting the swift mobilization of rescue teams, including LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASTMA, the police, and medical teams.
Previously SaharaReporters reported that a 50,000-litre gasoline tanker overturned while making a turn at Otedola Bridge in Lagos State on Tuesday night, sparking an explosion.
According to reports from SaharaReporters, the incident occurred around 8:18pm on Tuesday, though no casualties have been confirmed.
Speaking to SaharaReporters, the Director General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Oke-Osanyintolu had said the agency activated a multi-responder plan to handle the overturned tanker and the resulting fire.
“All hands are on deck to extinguish the flames. Motorists are advised to take alternative routes where possible,” he stated.
He added, “We are working to contain the fire. The vehicle carrying gas overturned, which led to the incident. I believe it is a 50,000-litre tanker. However, the operation is still ongoing.”
