Governor recruits 9,000 guards for school security
Jigawa State government has launched a School Safety Initiative, aimed at ensuring the security and well-being of students and staff in schools across the state.
Speaking while opening the floor for goodwill messages at the occasion held on Thursday at the Sir Ahmadu Bello Hall in Dutse, Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, said the government had recruited 9,000 private guards to secure schools from attacks by bandits.
“Our government will continue to do everything necessary towards protecting our schools and citizens in the state
“I assure you that the Jigawa State government will continue to support the newly introduced School Safety Initiatives in the state,” the governor said.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Jigawa Emirate’s Council and the Emir of Hadejia commended the Nigeria Police Force for taking the initiative to launch the programme.
The Emir, represented by Danmasanin Dutse, the District Head of Kiyawa, Adamu Aliya, cautioned the police against leaking out whistleblowers’ identities, emphasising the need to protect informants who share intelligence with security agencies.
He assured the gathering of the support of the Jigawa emirate for the development, urging all stakeholders to collaborate for the betterment of security in the state, particularly in schools.
In his comment, representative of the Jama’atul Nasril Islam, Ustaz Muhammad Babangida, who is also theJigawa State Chairman of the organisation, drew attention to the importance of the programme, reiterating the call for privacy and protection of those who share intelligence with security agencies.
On his part, Rev. Panus Panti Gideon, representing the Christian Association of Nigeria in Jigawa, expressed appreciation to the police for being proactive in forming the scheme.
While speaking, the Inspector General of Police, represented by AIG Zone 1, Kano, Ahmad Ammani, urged for more cooperation from parents, school administrators, students, and the general public to realize the set objectives of the initiative.
The Chairman of the Police and Community Committee in Jigawa, Haruna Dangyatim, appreciated the efforts of the police and other security agencies in the state.
Dangyatim, who is also the Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, acknowledged the importance of community policing in maintaining peace and stability.
