Court Remands School Proprietress, Teacher For Brutalising Pupil In Adamawa State
Narrating the incident to SaharaReporters, the father of the victim, Bashiru Hamman said his son was physically assaulted and traumatised.
An Upper Area Court, sitting in Yola, Adamawa State has remanded the proprietress of Aliyu Mustapha Academy alongside a classroom teacher in a custodial center for child torture.
SaharaReporters learned that the teacher, Morgan Effiong had on Wednesday assaulted a 14-year-old pupil, Jafar Bashiru Hamman, accused of bringing a knife to the school compound.
Narrating the incident to SaharaReporters, the father of the victim, Bashiru Hamman said his son was physically assaulted and traumatised.
“My kid was flogged several times, as you can see bruises all over his body. After hitting him with a whip repeatedly, they forced him to stay in the sun for a long period,” the father narrated.
He added, “They said my son brought a knife to the school, but they lied against him; because other pupils testified.”
The victim also narrated thus, “I met my classmates eating mango with a table knife and I joined them. Then a female teacher came and ordered us into the principal’s office. The principal directed Mr Morgan Effiong to flog all of us five times each. All of them cried except me. Then she instructed him to keep flogging me harder.”
Outraged by the condition of their child, the parents reported the incident at the Zone 3 headquarters of the Nigerian Police.
Swiftly, the perpetrators were invited and charged to court despite attempting to compromised the officer who oversees the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
During the arraignment at Upper Area Court 1 on Thursday, the accused persons declined guilty plea and were remanded in Jimeta correctional service center.
The judge, Shehu Mustapha adjourned the matter to Friday (tomorrow) for ruling on bail application.
