El-Rufai missed NEC meeting voluntarily, says APC spokesman
The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Felix Morka, has said that the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, voluntarily failed to attend to the party’s National Executive Council meeting.
Morka stated that the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory had the right to attend the meeting like any other NEC member but failed to do so.
Recall that leaders of the ruling party converged at the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja for its NEC meeting since the assumption of President Bola Tinubu in office in 2023.
The meeting was very well attended by all members of the National Working Committee as well as other members of the various party organs.
The leader of the party, President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shetimma, Senate President, Goodwill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, were all in attendance.
This development comes two days after El-Rufai called out the ruling party during a recent interview on Arise News, saying that the APC lacked internal democracy and has failed to adhere to its constitution by calling for a NEC meeting.
When reminded that the ruling party would hold its NEC meeting on Wednesday, the former governor said he hadn’t gotten his invitation and should have been sent days before.
However, in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, the APC spokesman said notices were sent to other party leaders like El-Rufai, who attended the meeting.
He said, “Today, you know, there was a roll call of eminent members who attended this meeting today. The same way notice was sent to El-Rufai I believe, was how notices were sent to these other members who got the notices and attended.
“Many of them don’t live in Abuja but they made plans and traveled to be at this meeting today. If El-Rufai, you know, wanted to be at the meeting, I bet you, he would have come.
“By the way, let me not say this, because I don’t know how to check. I don’t know if he’s a member of NEC. Of certainly a member of caucus, but I don’t know that he’s a member of NEC. I mean, I doubt that.”
