18-Yr-Old Commits Suicide After ‘Mistakenly’ Impregnating His Cousin
An 18-year-old young man from Cowdry Park, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, tragically took his life following a heated dispute with his family over allegations that he had impregnated his cousin.
The deceased, identified as Meluleki Sibanda, was discovered hanging from a mango tree near his home. Reports indicate that the incident followed a confrontation with his father on the evening of February 21, 2025, around 8 p.m. His father had confronted him over claims that he had impregnated a cousin, and the family decided to involve other relatives and law enforcement before making a final decision on the matter.
By 10 p.m., the family members had retired for the night, unaware of the devastating turn of events that would unfold. The next morning, at approximately 6 a.m., Meluleki’s father stepped outside and was met with the shocking sight of his son’s lifeless body hanging from a mango tree near their gate.
Authorities were immediately alerted, and law enforcement officials arrived at the scene to conduct preliminary investigations. The body was later transported to Mpilo Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Some community members speculate that Meluleki may have felt overwhelmed and embarrassed after his private life was exposed.
Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the acting police spokesperson in Bulawayo, confirmed the tragic incident and emphasised the importance of handling sensitive family matters with care.
“The police are currently investigating a case of sudden death by hanging in the Cowdry Park suburb. We strongly urge parents and guardians to approach delicate family issues with caution to prevent fear-induced decisions that could lead to such unfortunate incidents,” Msebele stated.
