Governor approves N7.6bn for indoor sports hall
The Ekiti State Government has approved the award of a contract worth N7,642,981,521.50 for the construction of the state’s Indoor Sports Hall.
The Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, stated, “The contract, awarded to Messrs Aron Nigeria Limited, is expected to be completed within 52 weeks.”
Olatunbosun disclosed this in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, highlighting key decisions reached during the State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday.
The commissioner said, “Approval was given for the award of a N7,642,981,521.50 contract for the establishment of the Ekiti State Indoor Sports Hall. This project aims to engage and empower Ekiti youths through various sporting activities and reflects the present administration’s commitment to the advancement of sports in the state.”
Additionally, he disclosed that the EXCO approved N2.2bn for the clearing of 1,300 hectares of land as part of the ongoing land-clearing exercise for mechanised farming.
Olatunbosun stated, “The job is expected to be completed in three months to facilitate crop planting in the current year.”
According to him, the locations designated for land clearing include the Bring Back the Youth to Agriculture project sites in Ose-Emure, Gede, Iyemero, Omuo Ekiti, Egbe Ekiti, Ayede-Isan, Ogotun Ekiti, and Ise Ekiti.
Other locations include Youth under Promise Point Partnership Farms in Iyemero, Iyemero Farm Settlement, Gede Farm Settlement P.F.D., Gede, Eporo Farm Settlement, Eporo, and Gede Farm Settlement P.F.D.
Furthermore, the commissioner announced that the EXCO had approved a N144.3 million contract for the procurement of Japan-customised working tools for youths participating in the Bring Back the Youth to Agriculture initiative to boost food production in the state.
He stated, “The customised tools include 902 packed customised raincoats, 902 packed customised rain boots, and other agricultural implements to support participants.”
The Bring Back the Youth to Agriculture initiative, a private partnership collaboration with YSJ Farms Limited, was launched to empower and engage young people in commercial agriculture, promoting food security and economic development in the state.
