APC warns ‘reinstated’ Osun LG chairs, councillors to stay off secretariats
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has directed all chairmen and councillors elected in 2022 on the platform of the party to desist from resuming office at any local government council secretariat until further notice.
The state chairman of the APC, Tajudeen Lawal, in a statement issued by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, gave the directive on Tuesday.
Lawal said vacating the council offices would be a sign of respect for their fallen colleagues.
He expressed condolences to the immediate and political families of Remi Abass, the party’s chairmanship candidate in Irewole Local Government Council Area, who was allegedly killed by political thugs of the Peoples Democratic Party in the ancient town of Ikire on Monday.
The APC explained that Abass had attempted to resume at the secretariat in line with a judgment of the Court of Appeal, Akure Division, which reportedly reinstated the sacked chairmen under the party’s platform before some hoodlums killed him.
Lawal stated that “the untimely and sudden killing of the peace-loving and consummate politician was inhuman, wicked, and callous.”
He commended all the council chairmen for acting in accordance with the Court of Appeal judgment that secured victory for them penultimate Monday.
The state APC chairman enjoined the police to extend their dragnet to arrest, investigate, and prosecute the killers of Abass, among others, and their sponsors.
He sympathised with the immediate family members, political associates, and all progressive-loving people of Ikire over the needless and gruesome murder of Abass.
Lawal promised that the leadership of the party would take all necessary steps to ensure that the deceased did not die in vain.
He reminded the deceased’s colleagues and other members of the party that “the only way to sustain the legacy that claimed the life of Abass is to remain resolute in their commitment towards the realisation of the party’s collective aspiration now and in the nearest future.”
