AHF Nigeria to distribute free condoms in Kogi, Benue, others
A Non-Governmental Organisation, AIDS Healthcare Foundation, AHF Nigeria has advocated the regular use of condoms among couples to promote safe sex.
In a statement issued and made available to journalists in Makurdi, Benue State capital by the organisation’s Advocacy and Marketing Manager, Steve Aborisade, on Wednesday, he said that use of condom is effective protection against the dreaded HIV/AIDs.
Aborisade stated that the organisation aims to celebrate International Condom Day on Thursday in all states the AHF operates including Lokoja, Kogi State capital, Benue, Akwa Ibom and others with free distribution of AHF branded condoms.
The events will include a road work involving students of higher institutions, members of Civil Society Organisations, including leadership of National Union of Road Transport Workers with government officials from the state Ministry of Health and the state agency for the control of AIDS.
The county programme director stated despite more than one million STIs being acquired daily worldwide, the World Health Organisation has observed that condom use is declining in many parts of the world.
The organisation argued that ending HIV/AIDS must include prioritising the prevention of new HIV cases, stating that this can only be achieved by promoting condoms as an essential tools.
The statement also quoted the Nigeria country programme director, Dr Echey Ijezie, as saying, “We’re reminding everyone that using condoms is the best way to prevent HIV, other STIs and unplanned pregnancies.
“AHF created this day to promote safer sex and make condoms accessible for all. When used correctly, condoms are proven to be effective protection for you and your partner.”
