Hon. Tony Collins Nwabunwanne, The Anambra State Honourable Commissioner for Local government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs has called on Anambra Traditional Rulers and President generals of various town Unions to key into the visionary policies of Mr. Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo CFR by taking the lead in attracting investment and development in their various communities, Towns and kingdoms by reaching out to thier subjects and towns men and women
across the Nation and beyond Nigeria
and encourage them to think home and establish their companies, industries and manufacturing plants in Anambra State.
Hon. Nwabunwanne made this call in Awka when he received a cross section of president generals who visited him in his office in government House Awka.
He stated thus, “Traditional Rulers and President generals of various town Unions are the ambassadors of thier various towns and are best positioned to amplify and drive the developmental visions and drive of the solution government of Prof. Soludo.
“It is imperative for Traditional Rulers and President generals to synergise to ensure that peace, progress and development reings supreme in their towns.
However in the cases where peace is threatened due to unavoidable crisis, the traditional rulers and president generals should collectively should use their fatherly and leadership influence to mediate between the varying factions and avert anarchy in their towns and communities.
“My office has earmarked plans to hold Sensitisation and capacity building seminars to acquaint traditional
rulers and president generals of their roles as enshrined in the relevant acts that established them.
“On political participation of Traditional Rulers, there is no gainsaying that they should give up open involvement in partisan politics. This does not mean the abrogation of their constitutional rights to vote at any election rather, In times of political crisis, when politicians treat each other with suspicion and mistrust, Traditional Rulers are expected to use their fatherly influence to mediate between the parties in order to prevent a a breakdown of law and order in the state.
“Lastly, the traditional councils should be concerned themselves with encouraging their people to engage in
community development activities so that they can improve their areas and the quality of their lives”.
