According to a statement issued on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. on February 4, 2025, when a resident of the Ruggar Labana area, Abubakar Nabande, allegedly conspired with others to forcefully enter the polytechnic premises.

“Armed with cutlasses and sticks, the herders broke through the school’s fence, leading over 300 cows onto the campus. They proceeded to the staff quarters, destroying stored hay,” the statement read.

It further noted that when polytechnic staff and security personnel attempted to evict the intruders, the herders allegedly turned violent.

“One staff member, Abdullahi Muhammad Idris, was attacked with a cutlass, sustaining fractures on his right hand and leg. He is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Birnin Kebbi,” the police spokesman added.

Upon receiving the report, Commissioner of Police Bello M. Sani personally led a team of detectives to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment. Following investigations, officers arrested 47 suspects linked to the attack.

The suspects have since been charged to court for prosecution.

The Kebbi State Police Command reassured the public of its commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining peace in the state.
