When asked “Do you think money is very essential in love?” Bimbo Akintola said:
BIMBO AKINTOLA: When you’re young, money has nothing to do with love. But as you get older and realize what life is about, you understand that children mean money, life means money. Yeah, money is important. It doesn’t mean that the person has to be rich, but the person has to at least be working towards something, just as you should be. It’s a two-way street—both people have to come together to make it work. So yes, money is important.
“Gen Z has this thing where people say, “You have to give me transport fare before I come,” or they talk about splitting bills 50/50. What do you think of all that?”
BIMBO AKINTOLA: You people are funny. You people are funny, that’s all I can say. “You have to give me transport fare”—like you can’t make your own money? I’ll tell you one thing, and I say this to all the girls I know: there’s nothing a man can do for you that you can’t do for yourself. It may take you longer, but you will achieve it. Look, don’t be scared to be broke, don’t be scared to struggle. There’s pride in struggle, there is. And you’ll be so shocked at how well you can take care of yourself without a man.
And as for men, don’t be stupid. You’re providers—provide for your family. I expect a man to take care of the bills when I’m there, but that he has to pay transport fare? Kilode? Look, I think a lot of our girls are missing it. And that’s one thing Gen X understands—we know the value of working hard for our money. We do. We know what it means, and we don’t play with that because there’s a pride you get from being able to take care of yourself. You can’t take that away from yourself. Please, work. You can make that money. There’s nothing—nothing—anyone can do for you that you can’t do for yourself. It may take a little longer, but that’s it.

BIMBO AKINTOLA: Okay, like, I do believe in love, and I think love is so key. But unfortunately, my chance has passed. Unfortunately.

BIMBO AKINTOLA: No, I’m not Muslim. If you’re Muslim, you can be a second wife—there’s nothing wrong with it. My dad is Muslim, my mom is Christian, I’m Christian. So I understand—with Muslims, it can be up to four wives, right? But I’m not Muslim. I’m Christian. So I’m not ready to do that.
