Nigerians Have Short Memories, Can’t Defend Their Votes – Amaechi
A former Rivers State Governor and ex minister of transportation Rotimi Amaechi has lashed out at lol Nigerians for having what he called “short memory”.
The former governor, whose rise to power was also controversial, hajkymjhs been condemning both the Nigerian people and their government since he left power in 2023. He has called them all sorts of names to the extent of giving up on having a better Nigeria.
Mr. Amaechi fought for the ticket of the All Progressives Congress for the last general elections. He lost woefully to Bola Tinubu, who went on to winning the general elections amidst allegations of rigging and malpractices by the opposition parties and their candidates.
The former governor said that politicians get away with anything including corruption, embezzlement of public funds, gross misconduct and abuse of power. He however didn’t mention examples.
Amaechi said, “All we hear here is typical Nigeria, and you’re clapping. That’s why politicians get away with anything. They get away with murder because you have a short memory. None of you here can defend the votes. You have complained; Nigerians have been clapping for you.”
He said, “Before the election of the last president, a lot of us were called to intervene. Why did they do that? The people were ready to die. You’re talking and abusing everybody; nobody has power and will give to you. Not even me. If you want a pastor as president, go and get one.
“The politician is there in Nigeria to steal, to maim, to kill, and to remain in power. If you think Tinubu will give it to you, you are wasting your time. When we speak, we forget history.”
Amaechi made this remark at the National Conference on Strengthening Democracy in Nigeria held earlier this week, aimed at discussing pathways to good governance and political integrity in Nigeria.
