Fans Flee As Fire Guts Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium Ahead Of Champions League Match
A truck from Greater Manchester’s Fire and Rescue service arrived within minutes to control the situation.
Afire erupted at a merchandise store outside the Etihad Stadium just before Manchester City’s crucial Champions League match against Club Bruges.
Hundreds of fans had gathered to welcome Pep Guardiola’s side ahead of the must-win fixture. A failure to secure three points would see the Premier League champions crash out of Europe’s elite competition.
Mail Online reports that the fire was swiftly contained after emergency services responded quickly. Fans were evacuated to a safe distance while firefighters tackled the flames.

Asked if elimination would be embarrassing, Guardiola replied: “Thank you for your concern but after the game it will concern me and I will answer you.
“We would like to score a lot in the first 20 minutes but I don’t think it is going to happen. We need to be completely relaxed, no emotion and understand the game.
“I know these types of games need something special – something that has not been (seen) enough this year in the Champions League.
“I appreciate your concern for if we don’t qualify but I think we are going to do it.”
