Just In : DG Imo CPC Bags Award Of Excellence
Just by dint of hard work and dedication to duty call, Mrs Obioma Okafor has earned herself both national and international recognition as a strong agent of positive change in the fight against fake and adulterated products. It is in recognition of her laudable achievements in protecting consumers rights through massive sensitization and awareness campaign that the seasoned administrator was nominated as one of the recipients of the 2022 AUPCTRE Merit award.
This award is coming barely eight months after she was bestowed with Imo State Special Public Service Award as the “Most Active Government Appointee 2021” MDA category by Hope New and Electronic Media.
On Friday, 12th August, 2022 at Imo State Labour House Owerri, the Imo State chapter of Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service, Technical and Recreational Service Employees (AUPCTRE) on their 6th quadrennial State Delegates Conference, conferred Merit Award on Mrs Obioma Okafor, DG Imo State Consumer Protection Council alongside with some notable Technocrats and Labour Leaders with track records of unblemished service to humanity.
While presenting the Award, the State Executive Council Chairman of AUPCTRE, Comrade Emmanuel Metuh described Hon. Mrs Obioma Okafor as a patriot who prioritize the safety of her people above everything else by ensuring that fake and unwholesome products unfit for human consumption are not allowed in the markets.
According to him, since the emergence of Mrs Okafor as Director General, CPC, our state, Imo has witness a tremendous change in the fight against expired, fake and adulterated products which were in every nooks and crannies of the state leading to deaths and other health fatalities.
Metuh stated that the Award couldn’t have come at a more better time considering the fact that Hon Mrs Okafor from the beginning of her appointment till date has confiscated and destroyed fake, expired and unwholesome products worth over 700million and the fight rages on.
He said that the body deemed it necessary to appreciate the DG and encourage people of the state to accord her and the agency with more support by providing relevant information needed to checkmate the activities of those in the illegal business, harmful to human lives.
Receiving the award, Mrs Okafor, thanked and appreciated the leadership of Imo State chapter of AUPCTRE for finding her worthy for this award. She thanked His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma, the governor of Imo State for giving her the opportunity to serve the good people of imo state in his administration.
Speaking further, the DG stressed that the council under her watch will not relent on it’s mandate to ride the state of products considered dangerous to consumers’ health as more mechanism are out in place for effective service delivery.
She said, Imo CPC will not spare anyone caught in the business of manufacturing or distributing counterfeit products in the state, noting that this award will spur her the more to deliver on the mandate of CPC.
The DG recalled that since she came on board, the council has seized and destroyed uncertified, expired and fake products worth millions of Naira due to intensified surveillance and enforcement operations. She equally draw the attention of AUPCTRE members and other invited guests to the growing menace of fake, expired and counterfeit products in our state, urging them to be more vigilant and not to hesitate to furnish CPC with relevant information that will assist them achieve effective consumer protection in the state.
She therefore, called on the people of the state to always support the Shared Prosperity Government of Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma in its efforts to deliver democratic dividends to the people of Imo state.
Other awardee includes the Special Adviser to the Governor and General Manager OCDA, Engineer Francis Chukwu.
