University hospital slashes dialysis price to N12,000
The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi State, has implemented a 70 per cent reduction in the price of dialysis for kidney patients.
Disclosing the development in a press release issued on Wednesday, the Head, Public Relations Unit of the hospital, Usman Koli, said it was a bold step taken to address the financial challenges faced by patients.
He noted that the cost of the procedure had been reduced from N40,000 to N12,000 per session, offering relief to patients grappling with kidney-related ailments.
“The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Yusuf Bara, expressed optimism about the programme’s impact.
“The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare had not only ensured the availability of consumables in large quantities but also provided a new dialysis machine to support the hospital’s efforts.
“This initiative showcases the government’s commitment to making quality healthcare accessible to all, especially during these trying times,” Koli said.
According to the statement, over 45 beneficiaries have already accessed the subsidised services.
He emphasised that this initiative aligned with the hospital’s mission of providing affordable and high-quality healthcare while strengthening public trust in the healthcare system.
Koli quoted the CMD as assuring the public that the ATBUTH would continue to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to sustain and expand similar programmes for the benefit of all citizens.
A kidney patient in the hospital, Magaji Galadima, expressed profound gratitude for the intervention.
Magaji said, “This programme has brought hope to many of us who could not afford treatment before. It is truly life-changing.”
