Federal government announces fare for 2025 hajj exercise
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has fixed N8.7 million as the Hajj fare for the intending pilgrims from Southern States and N8.3 million for those from Borno and Adamawa Zone.
The Executive Chairman of NAHCON, Prof. Abdullahi Usman, made this known in a statement by its Assistant Director, Information and Publication, Mrs Fatima Usara, on Monday in Abuja.
Usman also said that intending pilgrims from the Northern Zone would pay N8.4 million as Hajj fare for the 2025 pilgrimage in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The NAHCON boss described the hajj fare as a product of extensive collaboration with all the stakeholders.
He appreciated the support of the Presidency and the Forum of Executive Secretaries of State Pilgrims Welfare Boards, Agencies and Commissions.
” The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), under the leadership of its Chairman, Prof. Abdullahi Usman, is pleased to announce the hajj fare for the 2025 season.
” The fare was announced sequel to the approval from the Office of the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
” The 2025 Hajj fare for Borno and Adamawa zone’s intending pilgrims is N8.33 million.
” Similarly, the cost of the 2025 Hajj for intending pilgrims from the Southern states is N8. 78 million, while intending pilgrims from the Northern zone will pay N8. 46 million..”
He said the leadership of NAHCON, in collaboration with representative of the Presidency, Malam Ameen Amshi, Special Assistant to the President, Special Duties, did their best to maintain the hajj fare within the same range as previously charged.
” This modest effort on the fare was reached after extensive consultations to ensure inclusivity in this important decision-making process.

The chairman urged prospective pilgrims to take note of the timelines and the Saudi guidelines, while emphasising the importance of early payment and timely registration to avoid last-minute inconveniences.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that intending pilgrims who benefited from the Federal Government’s N90 billion Hajj intervention across the zones paid N6.8 million as fare for the 2024 Hajj.
However, intending pilgrims who paid their Hajj fare after the subsidy from Borno and Adamawa zone paid N8.2million.
Similarly, those from the North zone paid N8.2 million while intending pilgrims from the Southern zone paid N8.4 million as fare for the 2024 Hajj.(NAN)

Shettima departs for Davos to represent President Tinubu at 2025 World Econonic Forum
Vice-President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja to represent Nigeria at the 2025 annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) scheduled to hold in Davos, Switzerland.
Mr Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications Office of the Vice-President, made this known in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.
Nkwocha explained that the Vice-President would join world leaders, top business executives and representatives of development partners at the meeting.
According to him, Shettima and world leaders would discuss the state of the world economy with the view to improving its conditions.
He added that while in Davos, the Vice-President would hold bilateral meetings with other leaders as well as participate in workshops and forums slated for the annual gathering.
He said that during the meeting, Shettima would attend a workshop entitled, “Roadmap to Co-create Investment Opportunities for Africa’s Frontier Markets.”
According to him, the workshop will be organised by the African Development Bank in collaboration with the World Economic Forum to boost the flow of capital into Africa’s frontier markets.
He further stated that the workshop, which is slated for the Congress Centre in Jakobshorn, would scale solutions that build a prosperous, inclusive and resilient continent.
” Top on the agenda will be an announcement of the Humanitarian and Resilience Investing (HRI) Roadmap for Africa, in partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB).
” It will foster partnerships between public and private sector leaders interested in mobilising investment in Africa’s frontier markets, among others,” he said.
Nkwocha said that the Vice-President would attend a dinner for Heads of State, government and international organisations.
He also said that Shettima would attend the Annual Meeting and 2025 Crystal Awardees of the International Business Council and Strategic Partners, slated for Kurpark Village, Eiger.
He added that the Vice-President would also co-chair a forum on, “Turning Digital Trade into a Catalyst for Growth in Africa”, slated for the Pischa Congress Centre.
According to him, the session would provide a dynamic platform for forward-thinking dialogue on digital trade.
He added that the session would look at the crucial role of the private sector in advancing the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Digital Trade Protocol adopted by the African Union (AU) Heads of state/government in January 2024.
Nkwocha said that Shettima would attend, as a panelist, a Stakeholder Dialogue entitled, “Global Risks 2025.”
He said that the Vice-President would be accompanied by top government officials including Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, and Executive Secretary of Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission, Aisha Rimi.
He said that the Vice-President will return to Abuja at the end of his engagements in Davos. (NAN)

JUST IN; Prophet shot dead by three armed Men during Church Service
A 54-year-old prophet named Yomi Adetula was shot dead by gunmen who broke into a Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) in Idiroko, Ipokia Local Government Area, Ogun State, on Sunday.
Around 10:30 a.m., it was reported that the thugs broke inside the CCC Eagle Parish on Baggage Road in Odo Eran, Idiroko, and started shooting during the service.
Adetula, who seemed to be the target, was fired at by the three gunmen, who then used an axe to mangle his head.
In a statement on Sunday afternoon, Omolola Odutola, the police spokesperson, confirmed the occurrence
“Police officers raced to the scene and saw on Yomi Adetula, ‘M’, aged 54 years lifeless in the pool of blood which stained his white celestial garment lying face up.
“On careful observation, his body was riddled with bullets and his head was not speared… to ensure the victim was really dead, it was mangled with axe.
“On police inquiry, information further gathered that three men came into the church, brought out long double barrel gun aimed at their target and fire a shot that brought the deceased down,” she said.
The Police spokesperson revealed that the corpse had been deposited at the General Hospital Morgue, Ilaro.
She added that: “Normalcy has been restored while possible clue will be revealed in the coming days as investigation has been launched into the very sad occurrence.”

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike begins commissioning of six road projects, Monday
The Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, will on Monday, this week, commence the commissioning of six road projects executed in the six Area Councils in the FCT.
Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communication and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said in a statement on Sunday, that the projects commissioning will kick off tomorrow, with the newly constructed 5km Naharati- River Ukya to Unguwan Hausawa Road with three Span River Bridge in Abaji Area Council.
He said; “On Tuesday, 11km Yangoji-Sukuku-Ebo Road, in Kwali Area Council, will be commissioned while the rehabilitated 9km Paikon Kore-Ibwa Road within Gwagwalada Area Council, will be commissioned on Wednesday.
“Commissioning of the Asphalt Carriageway from Garage Junction to Local Education Authority Secretariat in Kuje Area Council is on Thursday, with that of the Gaba-Tokulo Road in Bwari Area Council, which was constructed with a two Span River Bridge is slated for Friday.
“The Access Road to Saburi I and II communities in the Abuja Municipal Area Council from ONEX to Old Keffi Road near Dei-Dei International Market will be commissioned on Wednesday, January 29.”
Speaking on newly flagged off projects, the FCT Minister’s Spokesperson said; “New road projects like the construction of Kabusa-Takushara Access Road, construction of Kabusa-Ketti Access Road, access road to the new EFCC Academy site in Giri District and 15km Road from A2 Junction Abuja-Lokoja Road to Pia in Kwali Area Council are going on as, with completion date expected to be met.
“Other ongoing projects are; reconstruction of the 25km Kwaita/Yebu road in Kwali Area Council, rehabilitation of the Old Ushafa- LUD Road and Dutse-Lower Usuma Dam Dual Carriage in Bwari Area Council, construction of 11km Aguma Palace – Radio Nigeria – New Market Road in Gwagwalada Area Council and Dakibiyu District Dual Carriage Road.
“Also ongoing are; 11km Kuje Road, Full Scope Development of 4km Arterial Road N5(Obafemi Awolowo Road) from Life Camp to Ring Road III, arterial road N16 (Shehu Shagari Way) from Ring Road II to Ring Road III with two interchanges and 11.3km Access Road to the Judges Quarters in Katampe from Arterial Road N11 (Ahmadu Bello Way in Mabushi).”
