Fake Soldier dressed in full Military uniform arrested by Police officer
Aliyu Umar, 35, was paraded by the Niger State Police Command for allegedly impersonating a military officer in Nasko, Magama local government area of the state.
The Command made this known in Minna through the Public Relations Officer, PRO, DSP Wasiu Abiodun.
According to the report, the suspect was arrested for unlawful possession of military accoutrements, impersonation, and membership in a gang of brigands.
He explained that his arrest on July 31, 2022 was based on a tip that an individual posing as a military officer was spotted in the Ibeto area of Nasko, Magama LGA.
Abiodun stated that upon receiving this information, Nasko Division Police operatives mobilized to the area and arrested him.
During interrogation, Aliyu Umar, who hails from Wawu-Garin Warra, Ngaski LGA of Kebbi State, denied being a military officer, but claimed that the accoutrements belonged to his brother, a Soldier man serving at Warri.
The suspect has also been on the Command’s watchlist since 2020, when he abandoned a Honda Accord vehicle with registration number RBC 143 FF at Maje along Kotangora road to avoid arrest for a similar offense.
The Command stated,” he couldn’t give a satisfactory account of himself as he claimed to be a car dealer and farmer while he further said the cash in his possession was meant to purchase a vehicle”.
One Mercedes Benz with registration number BDG 300 TA, one NDA emblem, one military camouflage, a jungle hat, one military vest with a belt, one military face mask, two ropes, three sim cards from different network providers, and and the sum of N720,000( seven hundred and twenty thousand naira) were the items found in his possessions.
Meanwhile, the case is being investigated, and the suspect will be arraigned in court for prosecution as soon as the investigation is completed.
The Command then advised members of the public to be more vigilant and to report any strange person (s) to the Police and other security agencies as soon as possible.
