Voters prevented from voting in Ipesi Akoko as APC chieftains disrupt peaceful process
Saturday 18th January 2025 was the date for the long-awaited local government elections in Ondo State today. Which was supposed to be an important milestone in ensuring democratic governance at the grassroots level. The Ondo State Electoral Commission made extensive preparations to guarantee a smooth and transparent election. Efforts included the timely distribution of voting materials, training of election officials, and ensuring proper logistics were in place.
They also set up an effective monitoring system to track the electoral process, aiming to avoid any potential disruption.
In addition to the logistical preparations, security agencies were on high alert, ensuring that voters could exercise their right to vote in a peaceful environment. The police, army, and other security forces assured the public of their readiness to maintain law and order during the elections.

Despite these efforts, some disturbances marred the process.w Notably, two prominent chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Prince Ajibade Amodeni and Bode Akujiola, were accused of snatching ballot boxes in Akoko South East local Government, specifically in Ipesi AKOKO Ward 6. Units 1,2&4This action prevented many voters from participating and denied them the chance to elect their local representatives.
Such disruptions undermine the credibility of the electoral process and must be thoroughly investigated.
Security agencies are urged to investigate those responsible for obstructing the election and bring them to justice to ensure that the sanctity of democracy is upheld.
The election results should be accepted by all candidates in good faith, and those who were defeated should embrace the outcome for the greater good of the people of Ondo State.
