…calls on the Governor to revisit the suspended Rivers state civil and public service jobs…….
A non political group under the aegis of Youth Assembly of Nigeria have passed vote of confidence on the Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Governor Siminalayi Fubara led Government.
This was contained in a press statement released to our heritage reporter on Wednesday afternoon by Amb. Sotonye Ekine, the Rivers State coordinator of the Group after a sitting presided by the speaker, Rt. Hon. Kingsley Ekeh
Details of the statement read:
Good afternoon distinguished honourable members of the 4th Republic, Youth Assembly of Nigeria, gentle men of the press, Ladies and Gentlemen.
It is with great honour that i welcome you all today to the press conference of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN) Rivers State chapter.
The Youth Assembly of Nigeria was established to promote peace, good governance, transparency and accountability within all spheres of socio, political and economic lives of the Nigerian citizens, particularly the Youths. More importantly the Youth Assembly of Nigeria was established to promote more participation of youths in all tiers of government and governance.
We (YAN) runs a Legislative System of Government with conglomeration of all state Youth Ambassadors as National parliamentarians. Here in Rivers State, the twenty three (23) LGA Cordinators as the State Parliamentarians.
Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN) has thirty-seven (37) Youth Ambassadors, each representing the 36 states in Nigeria including FCT Abuja, 109 Coordinators for the 109 senatorial zones, 774 coordinators for the 774 local governments, ward chapter’s Leadership and unit Cordinators. Indeed, the fastest growing and a very rooted grassroot organisation
Today the……day of December 2024, the Youth Assembly of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter held her sitting to deliberate on pressing issues concerning Rivers Youths and State at large; and many resolutions were accordingly passed. Therefore the dire need to issue this press conference/communique to the general public.
We will therefore use this medium to first of all appreciate and thank the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara for his strategic developmental plans and laudable achievements within the past one year; most especially in the area of infrastructural development. Most recently, the executive Governor of Rivers state implemented the New Minimum Wage structure which has made Rivers State workers enjoy the minimum wage of NGN85,000 (Eighty Five Thousand Naira) implemented into the salary scale. We will state categorically herein that this implementation has made Rivers State Government to be one of the first if not the first state in Nigeria to implement the new minimum wage structure and we commend the Rivers State Governor for this laudable feat. We also appreciate the Rivers State Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara in commissioning of various projects in the state which cuts across road constructions, educational and health facilities.
Further more, the Rivers State Governor has shown that his government supports youth involvement and participation; to this end, we thank the Governor for throwing his support to the youthful Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Victor Oko Jumbo, we also thank the Governor for the appointment of a youth as his Chief of Staff in the person of Rt Hon. Dr. Edison Ehie.
We also use this medium to appreciate the Governor of Rivers state for the support he gave to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission which conducted a seamless local government elections for the office of chairmen and Ward Councillors across the 23 Local Government Area of Rivers State. The election was an avenue to reiterate the fact that Rivers state is an all inclusive state where the youths have shown again that they too can be at the helm of affairs as we have for the first time elected the youngest Mayor of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area in the person of Hon. Ezebunwo Ichemati and also the emergence of Amb. Chijioke Ihunwo, Executive Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area (another youth ambassador.)
Furthermore we commend the emergence of the female Chairmen in the persons of Hon. Mrs Tonye Briggs Onyinde DSSRS FWASCA (the Political Amozone Rivers State) of Akuku Toru Local Government Area and Hon. (Dame) Anengi Barasua Claude-Wilcox DSSRS of Bonny Local Government Area; and a host of female vice chairmen. It’s indeed a show of gender equality.
In the light of the above, it is without gainsaying that the Youth Assembly of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter seizes this opportuinity to pass a Vote of Confidence on the administration of Sir Siminalayi Fubara and we urge him to continue the good works.
In the light of the commendations above, we will not hesitate to press home further demands, and like the famous oliver twist of old, we are grateful for all that has been done but we will use this opportunity to ask that the Rivers State government kindly revisit the employment process for the Rivers State civil service jobs that was initially put on hold. In as much as a state cannot do without infrastructural development which the government of the day has done exceedingly well, human capital development is also key and essential in driving the economy of the state and we therefore call on the good governor of Rivers State to kickstart the employment process across all sectors and ministries of the Rivers State civil and public services as it is only through meaningful and gainful employment that the youths of rivers origin can truely say that they have a sustainable livelihood and means of survival.
We also call on the Governor to revisit the foreign scholarship award scheme that saw thousands of Rivers state youths travel abroad to further their education and get trained in high demand skills and courses.
It is also highly significant for the government to revisit the area of environmental sanitation as our dear state is in need of a clean and green environment devoid of pollution and degradation. We as a youth body offer to provide the Rivers State government with an international best practice blueprint and environmental policy that will return Port Harcourt city to its Garden City status.
More so, we call on the government to revist the area of establishing Traffic Management Authority/Agency that will see to the proper management of traffic rules within the state. It is no longer news that commercial motorist have turned the state into one giant motor park garage where people park indiscriminately. Therefore it is important that the government look into the establishment of a traffic management authority. We also offer to sponsor a bill for the enactment of a traffic management law that will imbibe the international standard as obtainable in the United Kingdom and other foreign countries.
As youths of Rivers State, we highly frown at the slow pace of work at Rivers State session of the East-West Road which has contributed to so many road menaces and obstruction to economic growth in the state. We call on the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) and the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on the ongoing reconstruction the Rivers State axis of the East-West as it’s of a great importance to Rivers State Youths and the State at large for the road to be adequately motorable.
As we approach the yuletide season and festivities, we urge Youths of Rivers State to shun violence or any form of restiveness. Let the Love shared in this yuletide be our watchdog and reason for the season.
We wish the good people of Rivers State a merry christmas and a prosperous 2025.
God bless the Youth Assembly of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter!
God bless Rivers State!!
God bless Nigeria!!!
Thank you.
