12 drug traffickers jailed 36 years
Twelve drug traffickers in Kano State have been sentenced to 36 years imprisonment.
Each of the drug peddlers was sentenced to three years, according to a statement by the spokesperson for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Kano State Command, Sadiq Maigatari, on Saturday.
Maigatari said the convictions were secured at the Federal High Court 1 in Kano, presided over by Justice S.A Amobeda, on Friday.
He said, “The convicts were found guilty of orchestrating drug trafficking activities at the notorious Filin Idi drug den.”
“Each of the 12 individuals was sentenced to three-year jail term with no option of fine, underscoring the severity of their crimes.
“One of the drug peddlers, Lawan Sani, was convicted after a 10-month manhunt, following his attack on an NDLEA officer. An additional two-year jail sentence was also imposed on him bringing the total imprisonment to five years.”
He described the conviction as a significant milestone in the agency’s fight against drug-related offences.
The spokesman emphasised that the convictions served as a deterrent to drug traffickers exploiting the Filin Idi area for illicit operations.
“The NDLEA Kano State Command remains resolute in its mission to bring drug offenders to justice, as well as combat the scourge of substance abuse in the region,” he added.
