Deputy Governor Summons Sacked Traditional Ruler To Gov’t House Over Misconduct
The Chairman of Isoko South, Warri had on Tuesday sacked the traditional ruler of Olomoro community, Joseph Isaiah Isike Edekere 1, over alleged gross misconduct, lack of respect for constituted authority and fanning ember of crisis in his own domain.
After the the traditional ruler in Olomoro community, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, Joseph Isaiah Isike Edekere 1, was sacked by the council chairman, Friday Ovoke Warri, the state deputy governor, Monday Onyeme has summoned the monarch to the Government House, Asaba, SaharaReporters has learnt.
The Chairman of Isoko South, Warri had on Tuesday sacked the traditional ruler of Olomoro community, Joseph Isaiah Isike Edekere 1, over alleged gross misconduct, lack of respect for constituted authority and fanning ember of crisis in his own domain.
In a letter marked “Our Ref: C.16/28/Vol.111/59”, titled “Withdrawal Of Representation As The Odio-logbo Of Olomoro Kingdom” personally signed by the council boss, and obtained by SaharaReporters, he strictly warned Joseph Isike from parading himself as the Odio-logbo of the kingdom forthwith adding that “This withdrawal is necessitated by your actions of lack of respect for government, instituting confusion/crisis in Olomoro community, high-handedness in leadership without due recourse to the effects on the people of Olomoro Kingdom amidst others.
“You are by this withdrawal requested not to parade yourself as the Odio-logbo of Olomoro Kingdom forthwith anywhere and as well as stoppage from attending the traditional rulers council meetings in the local government area and the state. This notice is strictly correct your compliance as any further reference to you as HRM the Odio-logbo of Olomoro Kingdom will be met with dire consequences.”, Warri had warned.
Following the sacking and allegations of gross misconduct as well as fanning ember of crisis in his own domain and among others, the Delta State deputy governor, Monday Onyeme has summoned the sacked monarch to the Government House Asaba to answer to all allegations levelled against him.
In a letter marked ‘Our Ref No DGO/620/12’, titled “Invitation To A Meeting With His Excellency, The Deputy Governor”, signed by the Permanent Secretary, office of the deputy governor, Anthony.C. Nwokolobia, dated December 11, 2024 and obtained by SaharaReporters, the government stated that the meeting was scheduled to place on Wednesday, December, 18, 2024 at the conference room, office of the deputy governor, Asaba at 100:am.
“I wish to refer you to the above subject and to invite you and your lawyer to a meeting with His Excellency, the deputy governor of Delta state, on the issue bothering on the petition by Messrs Ikhide Ehigbelua & Co which was in respect of the fragile peace situation and complaint of the activities of Odio-logbo of Olomoro community, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta state.”, the summons letter read.
Meanwhile, multiple sources from Olomoro community and the Ministry of women affairs and community development, have accused the former majority leader and current member representing Isoko South constituency 2 in the state house of Assembly, Ferguson Onwo, of backing and sponsoring the sacked traditional ruler.
Sources revealed that the lawmaker, an indigene of the community who has vested interest in the community’s leadership because of oil companies contracts, allegedly misled the ministry’s commissioner, Pat Ajudua, his former colleague in the house to issue certificates to some of his loyalists and unknowingly to the commissioner, they were forming a parallel leadership in the community in a bid to protect his (Onwo’s) interest.
Contacted on the issue, the former majority leader and current member representing Isoko South constituency 2 in the state house of Assembly, Ferguson Onwo, denied all the allegations, saying “I don’t have hand in it. I am only interested in whatever will bring peace to my community.”
