27-year-old Lady bags PhD in Nursing, becomes the first graduate in her family
A 27-year-old, Kiara Mack has made history in her family by earning a Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), United States.
With this achievement, she becomes the first person in her family to hold a doctoral degree. In addition to her doctorate, Kiara is now a certified Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner.
Reflecting on her journey, Kiara shared that she graduated high school without a clear plan, and now she completing a nursing degree at the age of 27. She attributes her success to God’s guidance and believes that He has been with her every step of the way.
Raised by a mother who had her at just 17 years old and a father who was sentenced to 21 years in prison when she was only three, Kiara said her path was filled with challenges. However, despite the hurdles, she pursued her dream relentlessly.
Kiara said she earned the degree for her family, friends, and for young Black girls who need inspiration.
”My parents never had the chance to graduate college, so I did this for them. There were many moments when it felt like the devil had a grip on my life, but God prevailed. I’m here today with tears in my eyes and joy in my heart, praising God for His plan,” she said.
Kiara’s academic journey started at Lawson State Community College, where she earned an Associate Degree in Nursing.
She then went on to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), before ultimately obtaining her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree.
As a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, Kiara is passionate about using her expertise to touch the lives of women in all aspects of their health:
“I am overjoyed for the opportunity to support and care for women. When I say that God is about to use me, that’s an understatement. I’m ready to make a difference and give back in ways I never imagined possible.”
