Governor Exposes Civil Servants Selling Health Materials During Surprise Inspection

Avideo footage has shown Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru confronting a civil servant over the sale of crucial health materials, including immunisation registers, which are vital for the state’s primary health care system.
“Now we are talking about this. This is a register for attenuator, daily attenuator register. Unnumbered. And you decided to sell it. Whereas we don’t have one in our primary healthcare,” Nwifur said, expressing his frustration at the mismanagement of health resources.
He criticised the civil servant for using improper materials in place of the required official registers, stating, “They are using a science book to write. I have seen it time without number in our primary health care.”

Nwifuru also accused them of undermining the system, saying, “And you have the opportunity to be a civil servant. And all these things are in your own custody and you are selling it.”
The governor revealed that he had observed suspicious activity involving vehicles loading the materials multiple times without intervening, but decided to investigate after seeing it again.
“I have seen these vehicles here more than four times,” he said.
The civil servant, caught during the inspection, tried to justify the actions, claiming the materials being loaded were outdated and no longer in use.
“This one is from 2019. You have the 2019 version now,” the civil servant explained.
The governor, however, was unconvinced, demanding to see official documentation for the materials being moved.
“Who gave you approval of this?” he questioned.
He also expressed his concerns about the state of Ebonyi’s health facilities, highlighting that despite efforts to improve, the system was still plagued by corruption and neglect.
“Even me. I have not been in office for almost two years. I have sucked in more than six billion naira,” Nwifury said, referring to efforts to purchase equipment for the state’s health sector.
“We need health facilities. We need equipment in our health facilities,” he added.
The civil servant claimed they sought approval from higher officials, but did not receive the necessary clearance. “I wanted to get approval from the executive secretary, but he was not around,” they said.
