According to a post by X user @rukky_nate, the man, a civil servant, spent ₦6 million on the wedding but only managed to recoup ₦350,000 from cash gifts during the event.

The user detailed the man’s financial struggles, revealing that he borrowed the ₦2.3 million from his workplace’s cooperative society to cover the expenses.

He wrote, “My neighbor’s brother, a civil servant got married over the weekend, he spent N6m in expenses. He was only able to realize 350k from the total money sprayed. He said his wife wanted a loud wedding, and he agreed, now he is regretting that decision. I don’t feel sorry for him.”

In another post, he added, “Update: He borrowed N2.3m from his workplace corporative society. This is stupidity, I feel like punching this guy in the face.”

The post sparked mixed reactions online. While some criticized the man for prioritizing a “loud wedding” over financial prudence, others pointed out the pressures of societal expectations and family influence in such decisions.

The incident has reignited discussions about the rising costs of weddings in Nigeria and the need for couples to prioritize financial stability over fleeting grandeur.
