The Untold Truth About Ebonyi PDP : Joshua Elekwachi
I have read numerous of opinions on issues boardering the Ebonyi State chapter of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and of most recent is the article by my respected senior in the pen industry, Mr Monday Eze. I have esteem respect for his person and opinion in that article which came to many as a bombshell .
I welcomed the article personally as an open truth but a belated one. Belated in the sense that actions that must have been corrected if those open revelations expressed thereto came earlier would have long be corrected and the party won’t be in this her present messy situation.
HOW THE TROUBLES STARTED.
The troubles started last year when the party went into congresses to elect officials of the party. Every sincere mind must agree that the party was United, formidable and focused prior to that congreses not minding the defection of Governor Umahi to the APC.
Leaders and members came together to keep the party afloat thus making the party attractive in the state but the unity cum attractiveness associated with the party immediately disappeared after the state congress to elect state Executives of the party on 16th October,2021 was compromised by alleged irregularities. I have participated in the entire process starting from the ward to the state congress so I have first hand information of what transpired, infact I was elected as a delegate in my ward but wasn’t accredited to vote in the state congress. On while I wasn’t allowed accreditation,it came to my understanding that it was a machinations of some desperate fellows who felt I was in opposition to their trademark.
I have issues of convictions and that makes it difficult to betray a struggle. When I say “yes” to a struggle, I do everything to maintain it but that is not the business of the day.
While the outcome of the Congress didn’t go down well with some persons in the party, particularly Barr Silas Onu who gave his all to the contest, the party decided to throw away the baby with the bath water. No reconcliation was seeked by Mr Tochukwu Okorie who was favoured by the Congress. As a human who believes in the fundamentals of the rule of law, Barr Silas approached the court to seek for a redress and the court subsequently quashed the outcome of the Congress.
As earlier pointed, no reconcliation was seeked. Infact, those perceived to be friends with Barr Silas Onu was not getting invitations to activities of the party. It was a total demonstration of ego and members within the estranged camp became furious to strike a balance. It is painful that in our body politics that the syndrome of winner takes it all has become imminent and the earlier we discard this notion, we can start having a more accommodating space for all and sundry devoid of unnecessary bickering.
As x-rayed, the genesis of the whole thing started with the congreses and with the pronouncement of Barr Silas Onu as the state Chairman of the party by a federal High court sitting in Abuja and subsequent recognition by the Party’s organ, he was deliberate to return the wrongs he encountered. Injustice anyway is injustice anywhere!
Barr Silas only built on what he met and was never a creation of any problem. Yes, he built on legacies he met in office. The party has already headed to a direction to the party primaries as everyone was allowed by the organ that formerly existed to purchase nomination form and participate in primary elections of positions of interest to vie for.
He may have returned some favour or per say have interest in persons but interest is Paramount in politics and not demonic to have one.
Selfish interest of leaders of the party led to the miscarriage in the state chapter and I am happy my respected senior mentioned that in his article. It is unfortunate that due to the selfish interest, insincerity and lack of cohesion amongst the stakeholders of the party, they was no genuine harmonization before the party went into primary election. Put apart the zero hours meetings with the NWC which intent was to change the goal post at the middle of the game.
As advised in one of my article sometime ago, the PDP must do away with the things that led to the October 16th congress so as not to experience the import of that charade again. I will again reemphasize on it, the party must strive to keep to it’s Creed’s.
The problem has been created, is time to recognize it and close ranks for the sake of giving the party a survival and a come back to government. Ebonyi is ripe for PDP!
