Federal Government Removes Universities, Other Tertiary Institutions From IPPIS System

The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), which made this known, said that the decision was sequel to the Nigerian government’s directive to remove the institutions from the IPPIS payment platform.
The President Bola Tinubu-led government has removed universities and other tertiary institutions owned and controlled by the Nigerian government from the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS).
The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), which made this known, said that the decision was sequel to the Nigerian government’s directive to remove the institutions from the IPPIS payment platform.
Announcing the development in an interview with The Nation, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the OAGF, Bawa Mokwa, said that the shutdown of the IPPIS for the federal institutions was a natural response to the government’s decision.
He said, “It was only natural for the IPPIS platform for FTIs to be shut down, given the Federal Government’s directive to remove these institutions from the system.”
Mokwa noted that salaries for November would now be processed through the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS).
According to Mokwa, federal institutions have been instructed to prepare their payrolls in Excel format and submit them to IPPIS for verification.
On the concerns about potential changes to salary account details, Mokwa said that the OAGF has not issued any directive for employees to change the financial institutions associated with their IPPIS accounts.
He stressed that the welfare of workers remains a priority and reassured that no misleading or panic-inducing instructions would be issued.
Mokwa further noted that any decision to change salary accounts is entirely up to each employee, with no requirement from the IPPIS office.
The OAGF therefore called on financial institutions to improve their services and manage workers’ salary accounts effectively.
Mokwa said that employees with valid reasons for changing their salary accounts are encouraged to follow the official procedures outlined by the OAGF to ensure a smooth transition without payroll disruptions.
