The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed the restoration of power on the Gombe-Damaturu-Maiduguri 330kV transmission line after extensive repairs on a vandalised tower.

According to Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, said the supply was resumed between Wednesday and Thursday.

“Power supply was fully restored on Gombe – Damaturu line at about 7:25 pm, on the 30th, and on the Damaturu – Maiduguri (Molai) part of the line, supply was restored yesterday, October 31, 2024, around 2:01 pm,” Mbah stated on Friday.

The restoration follows more than a month of disruptions after tower 372 was damaged.

“The vandalised tower was rebuilt, and the stringing of the line was completed on the 23rd of October 2024, at about 12:48 pm,” the TCN explained.

The delay in restoring full service was due to the additional damage on the Ugwuaji-Apir line. However, TCN has now successfully resumed supply across the Gombe-Damaturu-Maiduguri line.

The company also urged citizens to help protect infrastructure from vandalism.

“TCN is again calling on the public to join in the fight against power installation vandalism to safeguard the future of electricity in Nigeria,” Mbah added.

It added that suspicious activities around power installations could be reported to the security agencies or TCN offices.
