As the rainy season progresses, it is imperative for parents, guardians, and schools to take heightened precautions to ensure the safety of children, particularly with the increasing risk of flooding. Floodwaters not only present immediate dangers such as drowning but also expose children to various health risks from contaminated water and hidden hazards.

Parents are urged to be vigilant during this period by closely monitoring their children’s activities and ensuring they are adequately protected from the rain. It is advisable that children are equipped with appropriate rain gear, including raincoats and waterproof footwear, when leaving the house. Additionally, children should be strictly discouraged from playing in or near flooded areas, as these can conceal dangerous conditions such as open drains, sharp objects, or polluted water.

Schools bear a significant responsibility in safeguarding the welfare of their pupils. No school should permit students to walk in the rain, and adequate shelter should be provided until it is safe for them to leave. Schools found to be negligent in this regard will face strict consequences, as the safety and health of students must always be a top priority.

It is crucial that we all work together during this season to prevent avoidable incidents. The protection of our children demands our collective vigilance, and we must ensure they are safe at all times.
