The National Hospital Abuja has allegedly refused to treat some patients rescued and brought by Nigerian police personnel.

SaharaReporters gathered that the incident occurred at about 8 pm on October 15.

A police source told SaharaReporters that the hospital staff members demanded the sum of N200,000 before they could commence treatment on the patients.

The source added that pleas made by the police operatives to pay N20,000 were refused.

The source noted that the incident has led to the death of one of the patients.

“They were about to be lynched and the police rescued them and took them to Asokoro General Hospital where they were directed to the National Hospital. But the hospital demanded N200,000 from police before they can be treated. Police begged them with N20,000 still they refused.

“The police rescued them from Damagaza primary health center premises, on October 15 at around 8 pm. Now one of the rejected patients is dead,” the source said.

However, the National Hospital denied the allegation when contacted by SaharaReporters through one of the numbers on its website.

“That is not true, we didn’t have such a case here on that fateful day,” a staff member said.
