Firm unveils solution to tackle ‘one-chance’
Sure Switch Tech Limited has launched the “Sure Drivers app” to help combat the challenge of armed robbers who use buses and cabs for their operations, fondly called ‘one-chance’.
Speaking at the launch of the app recently in Abuja, the Chief Executive Officer of Sure Switch Tech Limited, Ugbah Chukwuma, explained that the app utilised advanced technologies, such as QR code recognition, AI-powered emergency response systems, and real-time crime detection, to improve road safety.
He emphasised that the app allowed citizens to report crimes or suspicious activities easily, while law enforcement could use AI systems to manage those reports, prioritise critical incidents, and effectively allocate resources.
He said, “The role of technology in combating road transportation crimes, Sure Drivers (an app), with its incredible ability to analyse data and predict patterns, has the potential to transform how we combat road transportation-related crimes.”
He also highlighted the benefits of the app’s real-time crime detection features, stating, “The use of the Sure Driver App QR code recognition technology can help in identifying real drivers and unknown criminals at road checkpoints or along routes.
“AI-powered emergency response systems can help identify and track criminals posing as taxi drivers. Apps like these can reduce response times, giving authorities a greater chance to apprehend criminals and rescue victims before further harm is done.”
The Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Federal Capital Territory, Adamu Idris, described the Sure Drivers app as a key initiative supported by the FCT Council of NURTW.
He noted that more than 55 per cent of drivers now possess QR codes that display their information and photos when scanned.
“The security is everyone’s business. We are determined to make this project successful for the benefit of the public and to ensure secure transportation,” Idris said.
Also present at the event was the Nollywood star, Rita Daniel, who was appointed as the ambassador for the project.
Expressing her dedication to the cause, she said, “I am honoured to be part of this vital project, as safety is a top concern for us all. As a mother, I worry about my children’s safety when they travel.
“We have heard heartbreaking stories of people facing harm due to crimes committed by those seeking to make ends meet. I promise to do my best to ensure the success of this project. We are all ambassadors for safety and security.”
Also, she encouraged collective action, urging everyone to spread the message, “Our lives, safety, and security matter”.
