Former state INEC  boss dies

A former national commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ambassador Ahmed Alghazali is dead.

The former Nigerian ambassador to Iran and Saudi Arabia passed away at the age of 84.

According to reports, he served as INEC national commissioner during the June 12 presidential election that was eventually annulled by ex Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida.

He was a permanent secretary and head of service of the Borno State Civil Service.

 

Algazali was also the chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission before retiring in 2011.

The news of his death was announced by his one of his sons, Abdulhamid Al-Gazali, on social media.

He will be buried today at Gazali Family Masjid in Fezzan Ward, Maiduguri, according to Islamic rites.
