Civil Defence Officer arrested by Police for allegedly supplying arms to Bandits
An officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), ASC 11 Maikano S/Tasha, has been apprehended by operatives of the Zamfara State Police Command, on charges of supplying arms, ammunition, and drugs to bandits.
Commissioner of Police Shehu Muhammad Dalijan announced the arrest as part of ongoing efforts to combat banditry in the region.
Maikano was found in possession of significant quantities of ammunition, including AK-47 rounds and anti-aircraft bullets, as well as drugs such as cannabis.
He confessed to his activities, claiming, “Yes, I was caught with drugs and bullets on my way to the bandit camp, but this is the first time.”
He also implicated fellow NSCDC officer ASC 2 Aminu Musa as the primary supplier of the illegal materials.
In a separate incident, police arrested Mamuda Sani Makakari, a self-proclaimed doctor, who was found with 441 bullets.
Investigations revealed he had been providing medical services to bandits despite lacking formal medical training.
He admitted, “I am not a doctor or a health officer. I sell medicine in villages and neighbourhoods, including to them bandits.”
Additionally, authorities detained the wives of prominent bandit leaders, including those married to Kachalla Jijji and Bello Kaura, for their suspected involvement in facilitating criminal activities.
In a shocking case, Ashiru Hadi, a resident of Kurar Mota, was arrested for allegedly killing his grandmother after she refused to give him pumpkins from their garden.
The police also captured two notorious bandits: Aminu Tsauni, known for kidnapping and phone theft, and Salisu Hegen, a cattle rustler associated with the infamous bandit leader Hassan Na-Bamamu.
Salisu admitted to participating in multiple cattle thefts, stating, “We only took part in stealing two people, but I can’t say how many times I took part in stealing cattle because there are many.”
Commissioner Dalijan confirmed that all suspects have confessed to their crimes and will be prosecuted upon completion of investigations.
He reiterated the police’s commitment to eradicating criminal activities and restoring peace in Zamfara State.
