This alarming forecast stems from the Cadre Harmonisé Report released in Abuja, which was developed through collaboration among the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, the World Food Programme, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, and other partners.

The report identifies several vulnerable states, including Sokoto, Zamfara, Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, Gombe, Taraba, Katsina, Jigawa, Kano, Bauchi, Plateau, Kaduna, Kebbi, Niger, Benue, Cross River, Enugu, Edo, Abia, Kogi, Nasarawa, Kwara, Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, and the FCT.

The situation includes 514,474 Internally Displaced Persons in the most affected states.

Currently, around 25 million individuals across the identified regions are grappling with food insecurity.

The country is experiencing a combination of challenges that threaten agricultural stability, including rising food prices, adverse climate events like floods and droughts, and ongoing security issues.

Officials from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security have vowed to utilize the report’s findings to shape responses to food and nutrition security.

They have emphasized the need for a coordinated approach among government entities, stakeholders, and the international community to address these pressing challenges effectively.
