Why I am staying away from Senate Presidency race — Popular Senator laments
The Senator representing Borno South, Mohammed Ali Ndume, has said the ongoing race for the leadership of the 10th National Assembly is heavily monetised and that disqualifies him because he is not a moneybag.
In an interview with BBC Hausa service, the third term Senator accused some ambitious lawmakers of sharing dollars to other lawmakers in a bid to get their support to lead the Senate and the House of Representatives.
Ndume confessed that he would have joined the power tussle in the Senate if he were rich, noting that he would have stood a good chance to win because of his legislative experience.
“The leadership position in the National Assembly has been monetised by some senators and reps, and they have started bribing members of the Senate with dollars while seeking their support, votes, and endorsement,” he said.
He lamented that rich politicians are likely to win an elections in Nigeria because of the overwhelming transactional politics going on in the polity.
