A Federal High Court in Kano has issued an order for the investigation, arrest, and prosecution of All Progressives Congress, APC, chairman Abdullahi Abbas.

In a lawsuit filed by Mahmoud Lamido, the party stalwart is accused of threatening life, disrupting peace, and making hate speeches.

The Kano native told the court, through his counsel Bashir Yusuf Muhammad, that Abbas insinuated in a phone call that he would kill him (sai na batar da kai).

In a Certified True Copy, Justice S. A. Amobeda adjourned the case until February 16th to monitor compliance.

The ruling has been described as a “milestone achievement” for democracy by Kano’s New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP.

Sanusi Bature, campaign spokesperson, stated that Abbas has been the subject of public debate due to his statements that could jeopardize peace.

It was the second time a court ordered the Commissioner of Police to arrest and prosecute the APC leader for alleged violence, intimidation, and threat, according to Bature.

“We hope this will serve as a lesson to any politician who chooses the way of violence than promoting peace in Kano and Nigeria,” he said
