2023: Why I don’t support my Son’s political Ambition –Popular Akure Bishop Borokini
Ahead of this month general election, Most Rev. Simeon Borokini, the Anglican Bishop of Akure Diocese and Archbishop of Ondo Ecclesiastical Province has explained why he chose not to support his son’s political ambition or campaign for him in the public.
Simeon Toluwani Borokini, son of Most Revd Borokini is currently a member of the Ondo state House of Assembly, representing Akure South Constituency 1 and seeking reelection in this month elections under the platform of APC.
Addressing a congregation in Akure, Most Revd Borokini said he decided not to involve himself in partisan politics and campaigning for his son because of the sensitivity of his position in the Anglican church.
He said, “I am confident that in Ondo state, politics will not tear and separate us.
“I am a member of this cathedral, by the grace of God, I am the archbishop and the bishop and I was a provost here for five years and incidentally now, my son is a politician.
“He is one of the members of the house of assembly in Ondo state and he belongs to the APC.
“Eyitayo Jegede is a PDP member and we have many PDP and APC members in the Anglican church.
“And anytime I come to the church, I always play safe (not to divide the church because of politics)
“So I don’t belong to any party, despite the fact that my son is in APC. I belong to every political Party. My wife is only the active and partisan politician in the house.
“She is the one that is supporting our son anytime they are doing their politics, I will just lock myself in the study room or my bedroom or come to the bishop’s court to settle one thing or the other
