Though the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo has continued to distance himself from speculations linking him to the 2023 presidency, his supporters have however continued to drum support for him to contest the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the All Progressive Congress, APC.
According to the Guardian, a prominent member of the Osinbajo for President group, Salihu Nataro, has revealed what the Northern leaders in the APC are doing so the vice president can become the presidential candidate of the party in 2023.
First the group revealed they are working to smoothen the relationship between the Vice President and the national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu so nothing will frustrate the Southwest bloc votes.
Just like Osinbajo, supporters of Tinubu have also been strongly pushing him to run for president in 2023. The two men have been getting various endorsement from various groups across the country to run for president. However, both men belong to the same political camp and if care is not taken, these endorsement might cause disaffection between them. Also, a cordial relationship between them is essential for the Southwest bloc votes if one of them decides to run for president. This may be the reason why the group is working to smoothen the relationship between Tinubu and Osinbajo.
Secondly, they trust in the ability of Osinbajo to revolutionise key sectors like education, health care, agriculture, judiciary, defence and others.
You will agree with me that our education, health care and other key sectors needs to be revolutionised to be more efficient and meet the basic needs of the people. The Northern leaders in the APC see Osinbajo as the man that can bring.
