Just In : Hoodlums Burn APC Chairman’s House
Hoodlums have set fire to the country home of Stanley Okoro-Emegha, the All Progressives Congress Chairman in Ebonyi State, at Ekoli Edda in the state’s Afikpo South Local Government Area.
The incident happened at 10.18 p.m. on Monday, according to an eyewitness who did not want his name printed.
According to a reliable source in the area, Okoro-Emegha kicked against the election of a youth group in the community on December 24, which saw the emergence of loyalists to the immediate past chairman of the Afikpo South LGA, Eni China, as principal officers of the community group.
According to the source, the APC boss expressed dissatisfaction with the election, which drew the attention of the new Council area chairman, Hon. Chima Ekumankama, who canceled the election and called for the group’s disbandment
During the APC stalwart’s visit to the area, the hoodlums were said to have opened fire on him and his Ebubeagu orderlies, pitting them in a gun duel. Sensing that his Pump Action-wielding Ebubeagu orderlies had been overpowered by alleged AK-47 wielding hoodlums, the party chieftain retreated and proceeded to Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State.
While in Abakaliki, word came that his country home had been set on fire by suspected hoodlums.
Confirming the incident, APC chairman Okoro-Emegha stated that he was attacked by thugs loyal to a local politician and that his house was also burned down by the miscreants.
He said, “Yes. It’s true. They attacked me tonight at Ekoli Edda community, and the same people, some of whom I know, I have just heard burnt my house.
“These are Eni’s boys and they attacked me and they are they people that burnt my house. I call on the police and other security agencies to swing into action. They know what to do to unravel the truth of the matter. They know what to do.”
