A total of 1, 399 have been sworn -in to participate in the 2021 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 three weeks NYSC orientation course in Abia State with a charge for them to conform to the rules and regulations guiding the orientation camp.
Speaking during the ceremony done in a low key, the State coordinator, Mr Jingi Denis said the NYSC over the years has recorded a shift in her orientation course content, synchronizing it with the prevailing security and economic realities of the nation to accommodate skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development programs.
According to him, the current state of the national security and shrinkage of white collar jobs have made the paradigm shift very necessary
He further explained that the National Youth Service Corps has four cardinal programs which every corps member must successfully pass through to qualify for discharge at the end of the service, which include the Orientation Course, the Primary Assignment, Community Development Service, Passing-out Ceremony.
He informed that the service is geared towards imparting in them the spirit of discipline and patriotism; and getting them prepared for self-employment and the leadership roles that they will soon assume.
The State Coordinator said the Orientation Course which is designed to equip them physically, mentally and psychologically for the task ahead during the service year, disclosed that the course content includes: Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme, Training in physical fitness, series of lectures, social activities, games and sports among others. He added that there will be strick observance of regimentation in all their activities and conduct as such they are expected particularly as they relate to COVID-19 safety protocols and challenged them to
participate actively in the camp activities so as to be fully integrated to the NYSC programs.
He appreciated the Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, who recently donated to the scheme a brand new innoson pickup utility vehicle. While congratulating them on their exam successes which qualified them to be called up by the national service, Mr Denis expressed hope that they will find the three weeks orientation course enjoyable.
Earlier, the State Chief Judge, Honourable Justice Onuoha Arisa Kalu Ogwe represented by Honourable Justice Chido Nwakanma performed the swearing -in ceremony for the corps members and advised them to adhere to the oath of the service they have taken.
