Tinubu nominated as Africa’s “Most Corrupt Person of the Year” for OCCRP award, Biden names world’s most corrupt personality Prominent Nigerian investigative journalist David Hundeyin has stirred controversy by nominating Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Africa’s “Most Corrupt Person of the Year” for the annual corruption awareness poll by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP).
The OCCRP, an organization renowned for exposing corruption and organized crime globally, recently invited public nominations for its yearly “Most Corrupt Person of the Year” award. In a tweet, OCCRP stated, “We need your nomination for Corrupt Person of the Year! For 10+ years, OCCRP has used this award to spotlight individuals who have done the most to advance organized crime and corruption around the world.”
Hundeyin responded with his list of nominees, prioritizing Tinubu on the African stage. He also named Ivorian President Alassane Dramane Ouattara and Kenyan President William Ruto as runners-up in his African list.
On the global scale, he declared U.S. President Joe Biden as his top nominee, stating, “In Africa, my nominees would be Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Alassane Dramane Ouattara, and William Kipchirchir Samoei Arap Ruto in that order, but my unchallenged global nominee would be Joseph Robinette Biden.”
The journalist’s nomination of Tinubu has reignited debates about the Nigerian president’s political history and allegations of corruption, a topic that has long followed Tinubu through his career.
